Nutmeg Whole
By using either a grater or a peppermill, you can grate or grind off small amounts of these whole nutmegs and use exactly as you would ground for whatever dish you’re making! Crack the nutmeg shell open by pressing the nutmeg down against a cutting board with the flat edge of a knife and peel the shell away from the nutmeg seed. Generally, whole nutmegs will retain their potency for much longer than ready-ground nutmeg.
