Wainwright’s Ukrainian Honey History:
Ukraine in the summer is a paradise for bees, with many fields of golden sunflowers for the bees to forage on. Beekeeping has a long tradition in Ukraine and there are more beekeepers here, with more hives than anywhere else in Europe. Beekeepers travel the country with their hives starting with sage honey around Odessa then trekking up to the Northern forests to gather honeydew in late summer. For every jar of Wainwright’s Ukrainian Sunflower honey that is sold, Wainwright’s will make a donation to the Bees for Development fund for rebuilding the Ukrainian bee farms damaged in the war.
Back in 1977, owner David Wainwright became the first beekeeper with two hives in his back garden. Since then, he has followed his dream by caring for bees and producing a selection of quality honey’s. Along this journey, he has listened and worked with fellow beekeepers in the tropical forests of Africa and across Europe. He has learned that we should trust our bees, give them what they want; shelter and good forage and let them manage themselves. They will then multiple and thrive. This family business produces honey from their own hives and tries to provide a market for fellow beekeepers in Africa and Ukraine.
